Music Therapy stimulates breastfeeding

Music therapy, recent studies seem to favor the relaxation of the mother and baby during feedings.

Not all babies respond in the same way as what kind of music, but environmental conditions and the right music, babies and their mothers get the experience of breastfeeding a pleasant and successful.

Breastfeeding is an art that requires practice.

Many mothers find it difficult to breast-feeding for the first time the baby is well attached to the nipple, milk takes up, it generates painful sores on the nipples.

But with a little perseverance and appropriate conditions, the experience of breastfeeding ends up being very positive. In this process of adaptation, in which the mother and baby are inexperienced, music therapy plays a role in helping both to relax and find a gusto.

Music therapy is the field of medicine that studies the complex sound-man. Used for this movement, sound and music in order to open channels of communication that produce therapeutic effects, and rehabilitation psychoprophylactic self and society.

It is known that breastfeeding has many benefits for both baby and mother. Initiatives in defense of this practice are multiple but perhaps the most important is the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW), which was established by WHO / UNICEF in 1992. It is celebrated in over 120 countries, from 1 to 7 August, although in Europe, being typically in August holiday period, usually held in agreement 41 weeks of the year.

In an important moment of life such as pregnancy, childbirth and parenting, music therapy and art therapists in general methods, which cultivate listening to him, to partner and to the baby play a significant role, such as noted by Helene Faber-Rod, a psychologist trained in art therapy.

“These methods used during the preparation for childbirth also create a good preparation for breastfeeding, where listening to one and the baby plays an important role,” says Helene.

Recent studies conducted in the Nalón Valley Hospital (Asturias) by Salome Suarez and Luz Maria Loredo, shows that music therapy encourages breastfeeding to promote relaxation of the mother and baby.

These researchers took into account the existence of a sound identity (ISO) that characterizes and identifies each human being. In her are both cutting edge and ontogenetic peculiarities of each individual, such as sound-vibrational experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and the afterlife.

Good results in 95% of the cases

A lack of case-control studies to determine the magnitude of the effect of music therapy on breast-feeding, the tests carried out in 22 mothers during the first days of life babies are very revealing.

After obtaining consent, administered a pre-intervention survey open-ended questions related to personal data and some characteristics of maternal identity score.

After a chip was developed for observing the response to the music of mother-infant dyad during lactation.

And finally, a new survey was administered post-intervention maternal characteristics related to the lactancia.Los sounds of nature and ambient music worked. Mozart, however, made two babies instead of relaxing excite

The results were, with respect to sound maternal identity, that 66% do not remember the music he sang his mother and 97% listened to music before and during pregnancy.

67% like to sing but only 9% sang to her baby during pregnancy. 95% provides a good emotional relationship during music therapy sessions. Only 9% of cases showed indirect signs of poor breastfeeding technique. 90% of mothers in the group decided to breastfeed.

As stated by the press Asturian Salome, “all the women who made listening to this music shots were easier to feed their children breast milk. It’s a circle that closes upon itself: the music lulls babies left to mourn.

It relaxes the mother and eliminate your anxiety about breast-feeding, being less tense, your heart rate decreases and it also soothes babies, who receive the heartbeat of their mothers while nursing. “

Of course, music therapy is not an exact science and there have to try what music is best for each baby. In fact, this study found that, overall, worked well the nature sounds and ambient music.

Mozart, however, made two babies instead be excited to relax and doze Fitipaldis Fito and invariably one of them.

In any case, new research concludes that health systems should include music therapy as a complementary therapy to medical acts, to promote the humanization and comfort.

It is very beneficial, moreover, that these activities beginning before birth, birth preparation and involvement of both partners.

“Experience shows that the more involved the father in preparation for childbirth, most can support and give emotional support to women during and after.

And the couple’s emotional support is very helpful for women to bond with the baby and also to develop the art of breastfeeding, “says Helene.
